About Sam

I am a senior digital marketer and strategist. I previously owned an e-commerce business and, prior to that, a live music promotion company. In my much younger days, I was a professional musician.

I’m currently Head of Audience Development at Future Plc, where I’m responsible for Future’s digital strategy, and particularly growing and engaging our digital audience. As of November 2015, Future’s web audience is over 52 million monthly users, and we have in excess of 15 million social media followers.

Record-breaking month for Future

November 2015 saw Future break the vast majority of our digital audience records. A few of the highlights included:

  • Monthly unique users record – 52 million users
  • Most visitors driven from search engines – 49 million referrals
  • Most visitors driven from social media – 14 million referrals
  • Most monthly unique users for PCGamer.com10.4 million
  • Most monthly unique users for GamesRadar.com9.8 million
  • Most monthly UK unique users for techradar.com5.4 million

This phenomenal performance was driven by superb editorial and digital marketing strategies around the month’s big events, including the release of Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront, along with the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend.

T3.com Multi-Platform Relaunch

T3, Future’s lifestyle technology media brand, today unveils a multi-platform relaunch across its magazine, website, digital edition and award ceremony, including the addition of an exciting new brand extension, T3 Squared – a free supplement that will be distributed with T3 each month.

Launched on 14 May, T3 magazine has been redefined with an exciting new look, new sections and features. The major cover-to-cover redesign completely updates and refreshes T3’s design and utilises a physically bigger format that provides a more inspirational and visual setting for new products.

The redesigned T3 contains four major new sections: T3 Hype, an in-depth guide to the very latest products; T3 Agenda, an inspirational photo-led guide to having new experiences with tech; T3 Select, an all-new and improved reviews section; and T3 Elite, the best gadget buyer’s guide in the world.

There is also a suite of exciting new regular features including Man vs Tech – where a T3 writer is put in a challenging situation and must survive it armed with cutting-edge tech – and new ‘supertest’ State of the Art, which helps readers buy only the best of the best each month in key categories such as smartphones and smartwatches.

Paul Newman, Group Editor-in-Chief of T3, says “We now live in an always-on world where everything connects to everything else. T3 inherently understands this new paradigm and is the only premium technology brand capable of informing and inspiring today’s tech savvy consumers, who increasingly demand more from their gadgets and indeed life itself. We passionately believe life is better with T3, and that’s why we’ve made a major investment in taking every aspect of our offering to a new level.”

Available only as a covermount with the print edition of T3, T3 Squared is a new monthly supplement that will cover a different category of technology in each edition. Offering a more in-depth and deeper look into areas such as phones, connected homes and cars, T3 Squared is the perfect accompaniment to the T3 brand, drawing on the depth of knowledge available from Future’s best-in-class editorial teams to create an authoritative and inspiring reader experience.

T3’s relaunch extends beyond print, with T3.com being entirely re-built so that it is now fully responsive for all devices. Several new channels have been added to the site, including Wearables, Living, Auto and Entertainment; each of which focus on the connected world that T3 aims to put itself at the centre of. T3 magazine’s annual Hot 100 franchise has also become core to the site’s structure, giving users permanent access to a constantly updated list of the best in tech.

T3’s multi-award winning digital edition has also experienced a full redesign, adopting all of the new magazine sections and features. The UK’s biggest-selling digital magazine, it is available on Apple and Android platforms. Since the launch of Apple’s Newsstand in 2011, T3 has been at the forefront of digital magazine innovation and this redesign is the next step.

The T3 Awards is the must-attend event of the consumer tech calendar and been dubbed the Oscars of the tech world. Now in its ninth year, new awards have been introduced including ‘Wearable Technology of the Year’ and ‘The Home Technology Award’, that represent the evolution of the T3 brand. This year ‘s T3 Awards take place at the Grand Connaught Rooms on 17 September.

Nick Merritt, Future’s Head of Content and Marketing for Technology, says “T3 is the UK’s leading multi platform tech media brand and this is the biggest and most ambitious renewal the brand has ever had… especially as we’re also launching an all-new brand extension in T3 Squared. T3’s been building great momentum since January and this takes it even further. We’re thoroughly looking forward to engaging our affluent readers and valued commercial partners in the opportunities presented by a freshly reinvigorated T3 – whether online, on tablet, in print, via T3 Awards or within T3 Squared.”

T3 was launched by Future in September 1996 and has become one of the world’s foremost authorities in lifestyle technology. It is published in over 20 countries. In 2006 the brand hosted its first T3 Awards, an event that has gone on to become the UK’s leading award ceremony for consumer technology.

Edgeless Ltd January updates

Total Film, SFX and GamesRadar combine to form GamesRadar+

Future plc, the international media group and leading digital business, today launches GamesRadar+, the most significant development ever of its global GamesRadar brand.

Gamesradar+ signifies the broadening of the market leading gaming site as it launches three significant new channels – Movies, TV and Cool Stuff. The migration of TotalFilm.com and SFX.co.uk onto Gamesradar, creating the new Gamesradar+, echoes the progression of how traditional gaming consoles, such as the Playstation 4 and XBox One, have become home entertainment devices.

The new Movie channel will be powered by Total Film, with SFX powering the TV channel, whilst the Cool Stuff channel will be a place for editors and readers alike to share relevant content from across the internet with like minded people in the GamesRadar+ community.

In its 17 year history, Total Film magazine has established itself as one of the leading titles in the global movie market. SFX magazine, celebrated its 250th issue earlier this year and is the world’s leading science fiction title, and GamesRadar has become a global powerhouse in all gaming, read each month by an audience of over 6.5 million. GamesRadar+ will now be a one-stop destination for audiences who love Games, Movie and TV.

The migration of two leading websites into GamesRadar+ has been a priority project for Future over the last few months. It signifies the start of an ambitious process to develop Gamesradar+ into one of the leading games and entertainment sites in the world.

The new Gamesradar+ will also enable readers to view, share and comment on stories more easily and on a more mobile-friendly website. There will be no changes to Total Film or SFX print or digital magazines.

Declan Gough, Future’s Head of Content & Marketing, Film, Games & Music, says “The arrival of Movie and TV content onto GamesRadar+ via the world renowned experts on Total Film and SFX will give the site an unbeatable edge when it comes to delivering gaming and entertainment content. Our research has shown clearly that consumers are not exclusively into just gaming, and with the development of the new consoles into powerful, all-encompassing entertainment systems, now is the perfect time to reflect this with the development of Gamesradar+.”

Sophia Tong, Global Editor-in-Chief for GamesRadar+, adds: “I’m thrilled to have the TotalFilm and SFX team join the GamesRadar family to power the new movie and TV channels with the launch of GamesRadar+. The team brings their extensive knowledge and expertise in an area that feels like a natural extension for the next phase of the website that gamers can enjoy.

“We’ve also launched a new channel called ‘Cool Stuff’, a place where all the editors and readers can share anything they’re passionate about, such as toys, soundtracks, books, or board games. GamesRadar+ is truly a global website with best-in-class journalists in the US, UK, and Australia to provide the most up to date news, 24 hours a day. As a team, we will continue to produce the quality of content that has become expected of these brands.”

GamesRadar+ is the name of the new site reflecting the additional content, and it can be found at the existing URL www.GamesRadar.com.

All existing content from TotalFilm.com has been migrated to the new destination, and archives from SFX.co.uk will be available soon.
